The EMS code, as adapted for the WCF, is known as the WCF EMS Code.

These codes are not mandatory, but strongly recommended, so that pedigrees may be universally understood.

It is also strongly recommended that the full genetic code is used for all breeds, without dropping codes for pattern, etc.
- for example SIAn33.

Additional informations to the WCF EMS Code:

* Breeds/colours recognized by one of the World Cat Congress member associations, but not yet recognized in the WCF
(but accepted).
They may be registered in the experimental registry, by adding RIEX behind the registration number.
They may be entered at WCF shows and receive all titles.

** New experimental breeds in the process of recognition by the WCF.
They have a provisional standard of points.
They may receive experimental pedigrees (RIEX), may be exhibited at WCF shows without receiving title certificates.
They may participate in WCF Rings.

*** New experimental breeds in the process of recognition in any other World Cat Congress member associations.
They may receive experimental pedigrees in WCF.
They may be entered at WCF shows and -rings but cannot receive neither title certificates nor Master titles.
The provisional standard of points of the association working on the recognition of this breed must be presented
to the judge before judging.

**** The Thai breed may also be called "Wichianmat" which is the original name for this breed in Thailand.

***** Amber and Sunshine are only recognized for breeds where it is explicitly recognized in the standard.

A WCF member club is not obliged to register any experimental breed, colour or pattern, if it is not in WCC agreement.
Member clubs are obliged to accept all WCF recognized breeds for registration and for show entries.
